The aim of this work is to explore techniques mainly used in handicraft textile design in a fast fashion context, by making a col-lab collection with Monki.
This work will address how a collaboration between a fast fashion company and an independent designer can be expressed in a garment collection where the DNA of the brand and the designer are combined.
The collection explores handicraft techniques in relation to the design DNA of the company, concerning production possibilities, material sourcing and pre-decided ways of working. The work will be made in parallel with the SS23 collection at the company and will therefore be influenced and guided by the colour, garment and material choices made in the main collection.
By using shells as the main inspiration source, the design work is limited in which expressions to consider. It is also an active choice to give a new twist to the DNA design elements which the company uses.
The research will focus on which kind of handicraft techniques could be integrated into a fast fashion collection, this does not mean that the finished collection is producible at a low price, it is an idea which can be reshaped and remade into something commercial. It wherefore only a suggestion.
